Update: It will only work with iPhone 5 and later on releases.
After the announcement of “Apple Watch” at he event, there comes a question in mind whether the Apple Watch need a iPhone or it works with other devices other than the Apple. Well, confirmed in the keynote presentation at the event , you will need an iPhone in order to use the Watch.

didn't specify at the time of writing which iPhones will be
compatible.
